Peter Sceats, CEO of Sceats-Coal. Law, has an extensive and distinguished track record in the coal industry. He is widely recognized for his foundational contributions, including the creation of the API indices that underpin international coal markets. Over his career, Peter has excelled in multiple facets of the industry, from brokering physical coal and coal derivatives, to procuring coal for power companies, engaging in merchant coal trading, and serving as a coal risk management consultant to a vast array of private clients for over two decades.

Peter’s pioneering achievements include brokering the world’s first thermal coal derivative transaction, facilitating the first modern floating-price physical coal sales, and executing the world’s first commoditized electricity/coal spread trade. His innovative contributions have significantly shaped the global coal market landscape.

In addition to his industry roles, Peter now serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Sceats Coal Report, further cementing his leadership and expertise in the field.
